4 day volunteering camp at Sikia

In the previous days (9 - 14/5) a group of volunteers, we were hosted at the scout center of Sykia under the impressive steep slopes of Gkiona in order to continue the restoration of the path, which now connects Sykia with Kato Mousounitsa and Ath. Diakos , taking advantage of the revelatory traverse along the Mornos valley.

During the five days we were there, sporadic improvements were made to the path which now allows us to travel 12.7km covering the newly introduced daily section connecting Gkiona - Vardousia. More specifically, a small group moved on the first day to K. Musounitsa making improvements in the direction of Mornos, while the second an alternative branching was marked to the historical fortification of the Dorians at Gla.

On the weekend (12-14/5), the action culminated with the support of an additional 21 volunteers, who arrived from various cities in Sykia, responding to the group`s invitation. The volunteer event was attended and contributed by diverse residents of Sykia, old and new friends of the initiative, as well as Miltos Zervas, editor of ‘’ANEVAINONTAS’’ (https://anevenontas.gr/ ), as well as Giorgos Sidiras, a one of the three co-founders of ΄΄HELLAS PATH΄΄ (http://www.hellaspath.gr/ ) and former climbing administrator of the Athenian Association.
The 2km section of the Sykia-Mornos path is now in a very good passable condition thanks to the contribution of the volunteers. The total of volunteers was 25.

On the last day, Sunday, two actions took place at the same time. The group of volunteers walked the 12.7km path from Athanasios Diakos to Sykia in order το familiarize with the path and to remove brought materials, while at the same time a small group was in Gkiona via Lazorema in order to prepare the optimal route (gentle traverse) for Vathia Lakka in the highlands of Gkiona.
Finally, we would like to give special thanks to the small local community, the Cultural Association of Sykeots Doridos "The Living Source" who offered the breakfasts, as well as the SCOUTING CENTER OF SYKIA for providing the hosting space (https://www.facebook.com/groups/ 3063736247068091/?ref=share).
